Job Overview:
The GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst position is crucial for conducting a rapid drought assessment in Vietnam, particularly in the Central Highlands. • The analyst will be responsible for processing and analyzing spatial meteorological and hydrological data, integrating it with agricultural data to assess the spatial distribution and severity of drought impacts. The findings from this assessment will support national and provincial authorities in enhancing drought preparedness, protecting agricultural production, and safeguarding water security, ultimately contributing to the long-term resilience of the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst will work under the supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) and collaborate closely with the Team Leader and other team members. Key responsibilities include: reviewing existing FAO drought assessments and relevant spatial datasets; collecting and organizing spatial data on meteorology, hydrology, and agriculture; integrating historical drought information with spatial datasets; compiling information on agricultural production areas and irrigation infrastructure; supporting experts in identifying drought risk areas; developing GIS maps to visualize historical drought events and agricultural production; applying remote sensing data to assess agricultural conditions; maintaining a structured GIS database; preparing maps and spatial products for reports; contributing technical inputs to validation workshops and final reports; and performing other GIS-related tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (MSc or PhD) in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Water Resources Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in GIS, remote sensing, or spatial analysis is required. Proficiency in English and Vietnamese is essential, and candidates must be nationals of Vietnam or residents with a valid work permit. FAO core competencies include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree, either a Master's or Doctorate, in fields related to geography, geomatics, GIS, remote sensing, environmental science, or engineering disciplines that relate to water resources and agriculture. This advanced education is critical for understanding complex spatial data and its applications in drought assessment and management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, or related fields. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing and managing GIS databases, conducting spatial analysis, and mapping drought conditions.
