Job Overview: The Corporate Alliances Specialist position is designed to support the implementation and development of multi-country partnerships with the private sector, focusing on both financial and non-financial engagement modalities. The role involves collaborating with African companies and key stakeholders, including platforms, associations, and Country Offices (COs), to advance programmatic goals related to child rights and business initiatives. The incumbent will also assist COs in evidence generation, strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation initiatives, while leading capacity-building efforts in the region. This position requires a proactive approach to partnership development, providing advice and support to COs in identifying and finalizing partnerships, including due diligence and negotiation, particularly in sensitive industries such as extractives. The role also emphasizes the importance of integrating business engagement into UNICEF's strategic guidance and ensuring that child rights considerations are embedded in business practices and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Corporate Alliances Specialist include:
Developing and supporting partnerships by advising COs on identifying, developing, and finalizing financial and non-financial partnerships, including due diligence and negotiation.
Accelerating business engagement through technical support and capacity building at the CO level, including training and documentation of best practices.
Advising on business engagement and CRB initiatives at the country level and leading selected multi-country/regional initiatives.
Providing technical guidance to businesses and stakeholders on integrating child rights considerations into their operations.
Supporting COs in integrating business into programmatic analyses and research, including monitoring reporting indicators for non-financial engagement.
Leading regional/multi-country initiatives to build evidence around the impacts of business activities on children's rights.
Collaborating with other partnership team members to ensure an integrated approach to partnership development.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Development, Business, Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Administration, or a related field.
At least five years of professional experience in sustainability, human rights, or children's rights.
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with knowledge of another official UN language or a local language considered an asset.
Direct experience in establishing and managing partnerships with the private sector in Africa is desirable, along with relevant experience in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Development, Business, Corporate Social Responsibility, or Public Administration. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of child rights, business engagement, and partnership development.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in areas related to sustainability, human rights, or children's rights. This experience should ideally include direct involvement in partnership development with the private sector, particularly in the African context, as well as experience in development and humanitarian settings.
Languages: Proficiency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
