Job Overview:
The Driver position at WFP is crucial for providing efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. The role requires adherence to UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations while ensuring that all transportation needs are met effectively. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, keeping accurate logs, and reporting any mechanical issues to the supervisor. Additionally, the driver may assist with basic office tasks when not driving, ensuring administrative support to clients. This position is based in Semera, Ethiopia, and reports directly to the Head of Field Office, making it essential for the driver to have a thorough understanding of local roads and conditions, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Afargna.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Driver include:

• Providing transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and security protocols.
• Assisting with basic translation of conversations from/to the local language when necessary.
• Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, providing assistance with visa and customs formalities.
• Maintaining accurate vehicle log books and reporting mechanical status to the supervisor.
• Ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
• Following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any issues immediately to the supervisor.
• Performing basic office-related tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
• Delivering and collecting various items, mailing services, and payment of office bills to support administrative functions.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:

• Completion of secondary school education.
• Formal driver’s training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate the assigned vehicle in accordance with local regulations.
• Knowledge of driving rules, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.
• Basic skills in first aid and emergency assistance.
• Strong client-oriented approach with a high sense of responsibility and courtesy.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education. Additionally, formal driver’s training and a valid driver’s license/certification are required to operate the assigned vehicle, ensuring compliance with local rules and regulations.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is considered desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Afargna is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

The position is a Fixed Term contract at Grade G2, with a duration of twelve months. The role is full-time, and only one position is available.
