Job Overview: The Driver G2 position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. The role requires a commitment to following UN safety and security regulations while providing transportation services. The driver will be responsible for meeting official personnel and visitors at various entry points, assisting with customs and visa formalities, and ensuring that all transportation activities are conducted smoothly. This position also involves maintaining accurate vehicle log books, reporting mechanical issues, and ensuring that the assigned vehicle is clean and well-maintained. The driver will also perform basic office-related tasks when not driving, contributing to the overall administrative support of the team. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Driver G2 include:
Providing transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and security rules.
Assisting with basic translation during transportation when necessary.
Meeting personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, providing assistance with visa and customs formalities.
Maintaining accurate vehicle log books and reporting mechanical status to the supervisor.
Ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
Reporting any mechanical issues to the supervisor promptly.
Following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any incidents or accidents immediately.
Performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
Delivering and collecting various items, mailing services, and payment of office bills as needed.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Driver G2 position include:
Completion of secondary school education.
Formal driver’s training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicles.
A demonstrated safe driving record.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, local roads, and security issues.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.
Basic skills in first aid and emergency assistance.
Proficiency in using communication devices such as radios and telephones.
A client-oriented approach and a high sense of responsibility.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary school education. Additionally, formal driver’s training and a valid driver’s license/certification are required to operate the assigned vehicle in accordance with local regulations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks, is essential. Defensive driving experience is desirable, along with a proven safe driving record.
Languages: Fluency (level C) in the UN language in use at the duty station is mandatory. Proficiency in the local language of the duty station is also required if it differs from the UN language.
