Job Overview:
The Partnerships Development Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women’s efforts to engage with private sector actors, philanthropic foundations, and financial institutions to mobilize resources for gender equality and women's empowerment in East and Southern Africa. The consultant will be responsible for designing and operationalizing a private sector engagement model that positions UN Women as a strategic partner and catalyst for gender-responsive investment. This role involves developing investment-ready programmatic offers, strategic partnerships, and financing pipelines that leverage resources from various sectors. The consultant will work closely with the Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Specialist, the Regional Director, and the Deputy Regional Director, providing direct support to the Regional Office and Country Offices in the ESA region. The expected outcomes include establishing UN Women as a partner of choice for private sector engagement and creating a diversified pipeline of financing opportunities to support gender equality initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with developing and implementing a Private Sector Engagement Model to mobilize resources from various sectors, including extractives, financial services, agribusiness, telecommunications, and technology. Key responsibilities include:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in international relations, economics, business management, development finance, or related social sciences. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least 7 years of progressive experience in resource mobilization, strategic partnerships development, and donor engagement, particularly with non-traditional donors such as private sector entities and philanthropic foundations. A proven track record in successful fundraising and managing international aid programs is essential, along with experience in gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives. Familiarity with the UN system is desirable.
Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as international relations, economics, business management, development finance, or related social sciences. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of resource mobilization and partnership development in the context of gender equality.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in resource mobilization and strategic partnerships development. Candidates should have a strong background in engaging with non-traditional donors, including private sector companies, international financial institutions, and philanthropic foundations. Experience in managing international aid programs and a demonstrated commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment are essential. Familiarity with the UN system and its operational frameworks is considered an asset.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of any other UN official language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and partners across different regions.

This consultancy is home-based, with the possibility of travel within the East and Southern Africa region.
