Job Overview:
The Operations Senior Assistant is a crucial role within the UNMAS Syria Response Programme, focusing on the daily management of operational activities. The position involves assisting with team deployment planning, drafting reports and documentation related to Explosive Ordnance Assessment, and maintaining records in IMSMA forms, which include incident and victim reports. The incumbent will also facilitate communication with local authorities and stakeholders, monitor missions, and prepare regular updates on operational successes and challenges to support humanitarian mine action efforts. This role is essential for ensuring that operations run smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall mission of UNMAS in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operations Senior Assistant will perform a variety of duties under the direct supervision of the Compliance and Coordination Officer or Operational Quality Management Mentor. Key responsibilities include: assisting in coordinating team deployments and operational activities according to established plans; drafting plans, reports, and documentation for Explosive Ordnance Assessment tasks; organizing operational meetings with local authorities; collecting and recording information about Explosive Ordnance and hazardous areas in IMSMA forms; liaising with victims and communities to complete IMSMA accident/victim reports; monitoring missions and planning with necessary departments; maintaining all operational documentation; drafting daily and weekly updates for the Head of Operations; and assisting in monitoring activities and needs assessments by compiling and reporting relevant operational information.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience, or a High School diploma with 5 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience is defined as work in programming, monitoring, operations, or planning, with mine action experience being highly desirable. Additionally, candidates must hold an EOD Level 2 certification, which must be submitted as part of the application process. This certification should be from organizations that train EOD specialists in accordance with IMAS standards.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, or a High School diploma accompanied by significant relevant experience. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong educational foundation that supports their ability to perform the duties of the Operations Senior Assistant effectively.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in programming, monitoring, operations, or planning, with a specific emphasis on mine action experience being preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of operational processes and the ability to manage tasks effectively in a challenging environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both languages, as they will be interacting with diverse stakeholders and communities in Syria.
