Job Overview: The Senior Communications Manager for Global Health at MSF USA will report directly to the Chief Communications Officer and will be responsible for leading the organization's communications efforts related to global health and access to medical tools. This role is pivotal in shaping public advocacy strategies in collaboration with the Programs department and the international MSF Access team. The manager will develop and execute communications strategies, provide editorial guidance on global health issues, and serve as the primary communications contact for MSF's initiatives on access to medicines and healthcare products. This position requires a strategic thinker who can effectively engage with diverse audiences and advocate for MSF's mission in the realm of global health.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Communications Manager will be tasked with developing and distributing external communications products across various channels to highlight humanitarian needs and engage with the public. Responsibilities include identifying key medical humanitarian issues, executing integrated communications plans, and enhancing brand visibility through strategic positioning. The manager will oversee the creation of compelling content for multiple platforms, including social media and live events, while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in all communications. Additionally, the role involves leading the development of editorial strategies for global health issues, providing medical editing and technical guidance, and coordinating communications campaigns related to access to medicines. The manager will also act as a specialist resource for other teams within MSF USA and liaise with US-based organizations in the access to medicines movement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in medical or global health communications, along with a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A deep understanding of the global health landscape, particularly the role of US-based actors and government, is essential. Experience in the access to medicines movement is highly desirable. Applicants should have professional knowledge of the US news media and social media landscape, strong news judgment, and proficiency in international affairs and humanitarian issues. Excellent research, writing, and editing skills are required, along with the ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree is required for this position, preferably in communications, public health, international relations, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in global health communications will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 7-10 years of relevant experience in medical or global health communications. This experience should include a proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications strategies, particularly in the context of global health and humanitarian issues. Familiarity with the access to medicines movement and experience working with diverse stakeholders in the health sector will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in additional languages being a plus. Candidates who can communicate effectively in languages relevant to MSF's work in various regions will be favored.
Additional Notes: This position is based in New York, NY, and operates on a hybrid model, requiring in-office attendance on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The role offers a competitive salary range of $124,346.00 to $186,518.00, aligned with MSF USA’s compensation framework.
