Job Overview:
The Major Gifts Officer plays a crucial role in identifying, developing, managing, and expanding relationships with major donors and prospects. Reporting to the Senior Major Gift Officer, this position is responsible for a portfolio of approximately 150 individuals who contribute over $25,000 annually. The officer will create and implement tailored qualification, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies to secure funding for MSF USA. This role requires collaboration with various MSF personnel to develop proposals that align with donor interests and MSF's priorities. The Major Gifts Officer will also track donor engagement, maintain accurate records in Salesforce CRM, assist in regional event planning, and conduct research to support donor prospecting efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Account Management: Design and implement the organization's account management strategy, managing key relationships with strategic donors.
  • Donor Development: Identify and cultivate partnerships that align with MSF-USA's strategy, focusing on long-term value creation.
  • Relationship Building: Establish trust and loyalty with potential donors through regular updates and engagement.
  • Brand Positioning: Develop and execute brand strategies to enhance MSF's visibility and appeal to donors.
  • Donor Engagement: Create and implement plans to engage existing donors, ensuring effective communication and solicitation strategies.
  • Proposal Development: Collaborate with MSF teams to craft compelling proposals that resonate with donor interests.
  • Stewardship: Develop personalized stewardship plans to keep donors informed and valued.
  • Data Management: Maintain comprehensive donor records in Salesforce CRM, ensuring data integrity and supporting decision-making.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in planning and executing events aimed at cultivating major donor relationships.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of development experience, particularly in Major Gifts or high-value partnerships. Experience in managing portfolios of high-value donors is essential, along with familiarity with donor databases, preferably Salesforce NPSP. A strong understanding of philanthropic trends and a keen interest in international affairs and humanitarian issues are also required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree is typically required for this position, with a preference for candidates who have pursued studies in fields related to international relations, nonprofit management, or a similar area that supports the mission of MSF.

Experience:
The role requires at least three years of relevant experience in development, particularly in managing relationships with major donors. Candidates should have a proven track record of successful fundraising and donor engagement, as well as experience in portfolio management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to MSF's operational regions, is considered a valuable asset.

  • The compensation range for this role is between $88,822 and $133,233, depending on experience and skills.
