Job Overview:
The Staff Assistant (Data Manager) position is situated within the Operations Directorate, specifically in the J2 Division, which is responsible for providing intelligence support for NATO operations. The role involves managing geospatial information and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of geospatial data and products. The incumbent will maintain the Core Geographic Information System (Core GIS) Database and support NATO command and control systems with geo data. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure geospatial consistency and interoperability, as well as the management of geospatial interfaces and the dissemination of geospatial information. The role is critical in supporting the planning and conduct of operations and exercises, contributing to the overall effectiveness of NATO's operational capabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Staff Assistant (Data Manager) include assisting the Staff Officer in data management, maintaining the Core GIS Database, developing operational electronic geospatial catalogues, managing geospatial interfaces, and ensuring data synchronization with other units. The incumbent will also be responsible for quality control of geospatial information, creating Standard Operating Instructions (SOIs), providing training, and contributing to NATO data management committees. The role may require undertaking additional duties within the organization at the same grade and performing temporary duty assignments both within and outside NATO's boundaries. The incumbent must be adaptable and willing to work unsocial hours and undertake deployments in support of military operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess higher secondary education and intermediate vocational training in geography, computer science, or a related discipline, leading to a formal qualification with at least 2 years of experience, or secondary education with advanced vocational training in the same field and 4 years of post-related experience. Essential qualifications include a minimum of 5 years of related professional experience, with at least 3 years as a geospatial data manager in a military organization. Familiarity with NATO's operational environment and advanced knowledge of geospatial databases, Python, and enterprise GIS environments is required. Candidates should also have good knowledge of Extract Transform and Load technologies and previous experience of operational geographic support to military HQs.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes higher secondary education with vocational training in relevant fields such as geography or computer science. Candidates should have formal qualifications that align with the experience requirements, ensuring they possess the necessary technical skills and knowledge to manage geospatial information effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a related field, with at least 3 years specifically as a geospatial data manager within a military organization. Candidates should have a strong understanding of NATO's operational environment and military HQ processes, as well as advanced technical skills in geospatial databases and analysis. Experience in providing operational geographic support at brigade level and above is also essential.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is English, with a proficiency level of SLP 3322 (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) based on NATO standards. Familiarity with additional languages may be considered advantageous but is not explicitly required.

• The basic entry-level monthly salary for a NATO Grade 10 (B-4) in Italy is Euro 4,150.63, which may be supplemented by allowances based on eligibility.
