Job Overview:
The Risk and Compliance Officer position at WFP is crucial for supporting the establishment of risk management activities within the organization. The role involves contributing to the application of controls and ensuring compliance with WFP policies and procedures, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of operations and optimizing resources. The officer will be responsible for embedding risk management into planning and decision-making processes across the office, monitoring key risk metrics, and updating risk registers. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare risk information for management. The officer will also play a key role in training colleagues and partners on risk management and compliance, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of WFP policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Embed risk management in planning and decision-making across WFP operations by monitoring key risk metrics and updating risk registers.
  • Collect feedback and data on risk performance and propose new implementation approaches.
  • Assist managers in conducting regular and ad hoc risk assessments to identify and evaluate risks, develop mitigation actions, and assess internal controls.
  • Collaborate with functional experts to identify trends and prepare guidance on risk assessments.
  • Utilize risk management tools to analyze risk activities and exposures in draft Country Strategic Plans.
  • Identify training needs and prepare training programs to enhance understanding of risk management.
  • Participate in developing Standard Operating Procedures for managing risk and accountability processes.
  • Prepare reports summarizing compliance status and highlight areas of risk vulnerability.
  • Support the completion of the annual director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director’s Assurance exercise survey. 1
  • Assist in preparing for Internal and External Audits, collecting documents, and following up on recommendations. 1
  • Promote adherence to the Anti-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Policy and assist in fraud risk assessments. 1
  • Perform other duties as required, including serving as a focal point for Business Continuity Management and Organizational Conflicts of Interest.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess knowledge of governance and organizational structures of international organizations. Experience in program/project management is essential, along with a background in monitoring and reporting activities. Familiarity with risk analysis and mitigation strategies is required, as well as the ability to engage in discussions with other units regarding planning initiatives. Candidates should demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and good judgment. Experience in assessing and recommending effective internal controls and mitigation actions is preferred, particularly in organizations utilizing modern enterprise risk management frameworks.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in business/public administration, finance, accounting, international development, audit, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant work experience and/or training in audit, performance, and risk management may be acceptable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum level of experience that includes participation in risk management activities, conducting monitoring and reporting, and engaging in risk analysis and mitigation strategies. Experience in international organizations is preferred, particularly in roles that involve governance and organizational strategy.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
