Job Overview:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in addressing the mental health and psychosocial support needs arising from the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, particularly since the escalation of the war in February 202
  • The position is part of the comprehensive community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) program that IOM is expanding in Ukraine. This program adheres to IOM's global MHPSS standards and aims to enhance community and family resilience, helping them cope with the distressing situations caused by the crisis. The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will be a member of the psychosocial mobile teams (PMTs) that provide community-based services, ensuring accessibility for vulnerable groups such as women, persons with disabilities, and older adults. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to integrate mental health considerations into community activities, conduct training sessions, provide counseling, and support the development of social networks and community initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Collaborating with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate mental health and psychosocial support into community-based activities.
  • Conducting training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA), stress management, team building, conflict management, and communication skills for humanitarian actors and community members.
  • Supporting the strengthening of social networks and organizing support groups and cultural initiatives to enhance community psychosocial well-being.
  • Providing individual and group counseling to affected populations as needed.
  • Developing and disseminating awareness messages and psychoeducation sessions related to mental health.
  • Assisting in conducting MHPSS needs assessments and data collection to improve access to services.
  • Supporting partnerships with local implementing partners for effective planning and coordination of community activities.
  • Implementing MHPSS components of integrated programs supporting veterans and their families.
  • Undergoing travel within Ukraine as required, especially in emergencies. 1
  • Ensuring proper reporting and documentation of activities and donor visibility. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. They should have at least 2 years of working experience in MHPSS or community-based work, particularly in humanitarian interventions. Previous experience in mental health and social protection activities is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations, including those from different cultural backgrounds. Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, and working knowledge of English is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support individuals and communities in need of mental health and psychosocial support.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in mental health and psychosocial support, community-based work, or humanitarian interventions. Experience in engaging with diverse populations and addressing their unique needs is crucial. Candidates should also be prepared for frequent travel across their target oblast and be ready to respond to emergencies as needed. A track record of innovative work and local initiatives will be considered a strong asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is a mandatory requirement for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the affected populations. Additionally, a working knowledge of English would be beneficial, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy position is subject to various conditions, including coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under IOM's Compensation Plan. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses, and consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance.
