Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of these vehicles according to the organization's technical guidance and specifications. The incumbent will be supervised by the Administrative Officer or another designated staff member, and will be responsible for adhering to strict security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security instructions and guidance. The role requires regular interaction with UNHCR staff and external partners, including government authorities, necessitating a limited exchange of information. The position is temporary, with a target start date of September 1, 2026, and an end date of December 31, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's primary duties include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and items, and meeting official personnel at airports or other locations while facilitating immigration and customs formalities. The Driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and meet established security standards. Minor repairs may be performed, and arrangements for other repairs must be made as necessary. The Driver must keep the vehicle clean and ensure that all required documentation for passengers, items, or cargo is valid. Additionally, the Driver is expected to log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities. Following security guidance and instructions from supervisors is critical, as is the ability to identify and manage risks associated with the role.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills and adherence to driving regulations. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of safety protocols and be able to perform minor vehicle repairs. Familiarity with communication technologies, such as security radios and satellite phones, is considered an asset. The ability to maintain a high level of discretion and respect in interpersonal interactions is crucial, especially when dealing with colleagues, implementing partners, and local communities.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Candidates with higher educational qualifications may also be considered favorably. A valid driving license is essential, and any additional certifications related to vehicle operation or maintenance will be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in a driving role, particularly in challenging terrains. Experience operating 4x4 vehicles is highly desirable, as the position may require extended field missions to remote areas under difficult living and working conditions. Previous experience in a similar role within an international organization or humanitarian context is preferred.

Languages:
Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the local language of the duty station. Knowledge of English and any other UN working languages is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate at least a B2 level of proficiency in the required languages to effectively communicate in the workplace.
