Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the EU-funded Capacity-building Opportunities for the Betterment of Displacement-Affected Communities (KOBAC) Action, which is a 36-month initiative with a budget of EUR 11 million. This project aims to support nature-based, durable solutions for displacement-affected communities in Afgoye and Jowhar. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the KOBAC Action, ensuring that all activities align with the strategic objectives of the BRCiS Consortium and comply with donor requirements. The role involves providing technical guidance to field teams, managing data quality assurance processes, and ensuring adherence to NRC policies and guidelines. The Project Coordinator will also coordinate with various stakeholders, including government entities and local partners, to facilitate effective implementation and reporting of project activities. This position requires a strong focus on capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic context of humanitarian work in Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: contributing to the development and refinement of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) frameworks; providing technical guidance to field teams and external consultants; establishing data quality assurance procedures; overseeing the implementation of the KOBAC Action according to the established plan; conducting quality control and providing technical support to implementing partners; coordinating the Action work plan, including activities, budget, and documentation; preparing and developing quarterly and donor reports; ensuring compliance with EU rules and contractual obligations; organizing project steering committee meetings and joint field monitoring missions; and documenting best practices and lessons learned for dissemination. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for leading donor reporting efforts, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions, and collaborating with BRCiS Members and local partners to strengthen capacity and adherence to minimum standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an applicable degree in international relations, business, economics, or a related field. Proven experience in humanitarian or development aid in complex and insecure environments is essential. Demonstrable experience with durable solutions or resilience programming is highly desirable, as is experience managing consortiums. Excellent report and proposal writing skills in English, along with strong communication abilities, are required. Candidates should also have the capacity to work closely with national staff and experience in staff training and development approaches. Strong planning, monitoring, and organizational skills are necessary, as well as the ability to write high-quality concept notes and technical sections for donor proposals.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in international relations, business, economics, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian assistance, project management, or related areas may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have significant experience in humanitarian or development aid, particularly in complex and insecure environments. Experience with durable solutions programming, consortium management, and resource mobilization is highly valued. Familiarity with the context of Somalia and experience working in volatile settings will be beneficial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, particularly in written communication for reports and proposals. Knowledge of Somali or other relevant languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to communicate effectively with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Mogadishu, Somalia, with a contract duration of one year, renewable based on performance and funding availability.
