Job Overview:
The Young Professional Officer (Aquatic Value Chain) position is situated within the Value Chain Development Team (NFIMV) of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. This role is pivotal in supporting the sustainable development of aquaculture value chains, which are essential for enhancing food security and improving the livelihoods of fishing communities. The officer will engage in research, analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis, and project-related services to facilitate the delivery of various projects, products, and services. The position requires a strong focus on sustainable practices and the ability to analyze and interpret complex data related to aquaculture. The officer will also collaborate with various stakeholders, including government and non-governmental organizations, to promote best practices and policy guidelines for aquaculture development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Professional Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

• Analyzing relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, and technological information to provide input for various documents.
• Maintaining records and updating databases and web pages to ensure accurate and accessible information.
• Providing technical support to various projects, ensuring that they align with FAO's objectives.
• Collaborating in the development of training tools and materials, as well as organizing workshops and seminars.
• Participating in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences, producing required materials and providing information and assistance to partners.
• Supporting the formulation and implementation of policy guidelines for sustainable aquaculture value chains under the Blue Transformation framework.
• Contributing to the development of project proposals focused on sustainable aquaculture value chains.
• Establishing and maintaining online knowledge platforms and developing communication materials.
• Organizing technical workshops related to aquaculture value chain indicators. 1
• Supporting capacity development interventions for stakeholders involved in aquaculture value chain development. 1
• Gathering and analyzing information on global fish trade and markets, focusing on contemporary issues affecting trade dynamics. 1
• Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of sustainable aquaculture practices and value chain development. They should have excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with various stakeholders and the dissemination of knowledge products. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in fisheries, aquaculture, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are preferred, particularly for candidates with a focus on sustainable development and value chain analysis.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in the field of aquaculture, fisheries, or sustainable development. Experience working with international organizations or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with project management and policy development in the context of aquaculture value chains will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset. Proficiency in languages relevant to the regions of focus may also be beneficial.
