Job Overview:
The Young Professional Officer (Climate Change and Natural Resources Management) is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of FAO programs and activities related to climate change and natural resources management in Nepal. This position involves working closely with project leads to manage interventions focused on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resilience within the agriculture, forestry, and sustainable natural resource management sectors. The officer will align these efforts with government priorities and the FAO Nepal Country Programming Framework (CPF) for 2023-202
  • The role requires a combination of research, analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis, and project-related services to support the delivery of assigned projects, products, and services, ensuring that FAO's objectives in Nepal are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Professional Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Analyzing relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, and technological information for input into various documents.
  • Maintaining records and updating databases and web pages to ensure accurate information dissemination.
  • Providing technical support to various projects, ensuring alignment with FAO's goals.
  • Collaborating in the development of training tools and materials, as well as organizing workshops and seminars.
  • Participating in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences, producing required materials and providing information and assistance to partners.
  • Assisting in the coordination and implementation of ongoing climate change-related programs and projects in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management.
  • Supporting the preparation of concept notes and project proposals, as well as resource mobilization efforts.
  • Monitoring projects by compiling inputs for revisions, tracking expenditures, and flagging discrepancies against budget lines.
  • Maintaining the completeness and quality of data and documentation in FAO's corporate systems for assigned operational field projects. 1
  • Developing partnerships with relevant organizations and stakeholders, including government agencies, UN agencies, NGOs, and the private sector. 1
  • Organizing policy dialogues, workshops, and consultation meetings in coordination with the program team and stakeholders. 1
  • Contributing to stakeholder engagement and awareness-raising activities, including preparing communication and outreach materials. 1
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications, including:
  • A demonstrated understanding of climate change issues, particularly in relation to agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for data analysis and project management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position. Candidates should hold at least a master's degree in environmental science, agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, or a related field. Advanced studies or certifications in climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies will be considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in climate change, natural resource management, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in similar roles will be highly advantageous. Familiarity with project management principles and practices is also preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of FAO. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nepal, such as Nepali, will be considered a strong asset. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may also enhance a candidate's profile.
