OICT's Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS) is responsible for developing and supporting a wide range of enterprise solutions that facilitate the work of the UN across various sectors and initiatives.

Job Overview:
The UN Fullstack Java/React Developer position is integral to the OICT/ESS office, which is hosted by the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre. The role involves designing and developing web applications and services, contributing technical expertise to requirements analysis, and ensuring high-quality solution design. The developer will be responsible for providing detailed documentation of changes, managing version control using Git, and offering third-level application support for deployed applications. The position is expected to last for six months, with the possibility of renewal, and requires in-person work in Deqing, Zhejiang, China.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include participating in the development, programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of new applications that incorporate Geospatial and/or AI components, adhering to UN-established standards such as Java and React. The developer will prepare both technical and user documentation for deployed applications, create training materials, and conduct technical presentations. Additionally, they will provide ongoing support for deployed applications, manage version control, troubleshoot issues, and engage in regular reviews with users and developers to address requests. Staying updated on industry developments, performing benchmarking, and proposing new tools and libraries are also key responsibilities. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in building web applications using React and Java is required, along with two years of experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and Java. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of experience with SQL and REST APIs. Experience with Azure Functions, AI, and GIS is desirable. Applicants must also be authorized to work in China, as the UN will not sponsor visas.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as computer science, information systems, mathematics, or statistics. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of qualifying experience, demonstrating the candidate's capability in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in building web applications with React and Java, as well as two years of experience using JavaScript/TypeScript. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of experience with SQL and REST APIs. Experience with Azure Functions, AI, and GIS is considered an asset, and the ability to travel abroad for projects is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of other UN official languages is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for six months, with the possibility of renewal. The consultant will receive 10 paid UN holidays per calendar year, following the duty station's calendar. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, including application, interview, or training.
