National Project Officer (E-Waste)

Job Overview:
The National Project Officer (E-Waste) will play a crucial role in managing and implementing projects related to electronic waste management in Uganda. This position requires a deep understanding of environmental sustainability and the challenges posed by e-waste. The officer will be responsible for coordinating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, to develop strategies for effective e-waste management. The role also involves conducting assessments, developing project proposals, and ensuring compliance with national and international regulations regarding e-waste. The officer will be expected to provide technical guidance and support to project teams, monitor project progress, and report on outcomes to ensure that project objectives are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement project work plans, ensuring alignment with IOM's strategic objectives and national policies on e-waste management.
• Coordinate with government authorities, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of e-waste issues.
• Conduct assessments and surveys to gather data on e-waste generation and management practices in Uganda.
• Prepare project proposals and budgets, ensuring that all activities are adequately funded and resourced.
• Monitor and evaluate project activities, ensuring compliance with IOM's standards and reporting requirements.
• Provide technical support and training to stakeholders on best practices in e-waste management.
• Facilitate workshops and seminars to promote knowledge sharing and capacity building among stakeholders.
• Prepare regular reports on project progress and outcomes for submission to IOM management and donors.
• Stay updated on global trends and best practices in e-waste management to inform project strategies.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in project management, particularly in environmental sustainability or waste management.
• Strong understanding of e-waste issues and relevant national and international regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, waste management, public policy, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in project management, with a focus on environmental issues or waste management. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda is an advantage and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role based in Kampala, Uganda. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on project funding and performance. The role may involve occasional travel within Uganda to project sites and stakeholder meetings.
