Job Overview:
The Communication Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the UNDP Djibouti Country Office by implementing communication and advocacy strategies that align with the organization's program priorities. This position involves working closely with various stakeholders, including government officials, media, and civil society, to enhance the visibility of UNDP's work and mobilize support for the Sustainable Development Goals. The Communications Associate is responsible for producing high-quality communication materials, managing digital content, and organizing public events to raise awareness about UNDP's mandate and goals. This role requires a proactive approach to communication, ensuring that the Country Office's initiatives are effectively communicated to both internal and external audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of internal and external communication and outreach strategies for the country office, including conducting communication needs assessments and assisting in the development of communication action plans.
  • Coordinate the country office publication strategy, including identifying leads for publications, translating and proofreading content, and overseeing the dissemination of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines for digital content on the country office website and social media, including updating the website and designing content.
  • Assist in organizing communication campaigns and advocacy initiatives, developing campaign materials, and tracking the progress of these initiatives.
  • Compile and archive knowledge products from programs and projects, ensuring they are accessible for future communication activities.
  • Collaborate with other UN agencies, government entities, and development stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of communication efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in communications, marketing, or public relations with secondary education, or 4 years with a bachelor's degree. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, along with experience in managing social media, digital marketing, and content creation. Additional skills in event management, video editing, graphic design, and familiarity with UNDP or other UN agencies are highly desirable. The ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines is essential.

Educational Background:
While secondary education is required, a university degree (bachelor's degree) in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant experience may be considered even if they do not hold a degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience for candidates with secondary education or 4 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience in communications, marketing, or public relations is essential, along with a proven track record of managing communication strategies and campaigns.

Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is required for this position, as effective communication in these languages is crucial for engaging with diverse stakeholders and audiences.

Additional Notes:
The Communication Associate will report directly to the Country Office Resident Representative and may supervise support staff within the Communications Unit. The role is full-time, and UNDP covers costs associated with meetings, workshops, and field visits.
