Job Overview: The Chief, Nutrition position at UNICEF is pivotal in managing and supervising all stages of the nutrition program, from strategic planning to the delivery of results. The role involves leading the Nutrition team and collaborating with Health and WASH sections to achieve sustainable results in maternal, infant, and child nutrition programs. The Chief is responsible for ensuring that the programs align with UNICEF's Strategic Plans and accountability framework, focusing on improving diet and feeding practices during critical periods of child development, particularly the first 1,000 days and adolescence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide managerial leadership for the nutrition program, ensuring effective planning and implementation.
Develop and manage nutrition programs, ensuring quality control and monitoring of results.
Advocate for nutrition issues and build partnerships with relevant organizations.
Innovate and manage knowledge related to nutrition and capacity building initiatives.
Collaborate with other sections to integrate nutrition into cross-sectoral programs.
Ensure accountability and adherence to UNICEF's standards of performance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in Nutrition, Public Health, or related fields. They should have at least 10 years of relevant work experience in nutrition and public health, demonstrating proven managerial leadership, advocacy, and strategic thinking skills. Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of another UN language or a local language is desirable.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as Nutrition, Public Health, Nutritional Epidemiology, Global Health, or Health Sciences is required for this position. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of nutrition and health systems.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in nutrition, public health, and related fields. This experience should include program development and management, particularly in humanitarian and fragile settings, demonstrating a strong understanding of health and nutrition systems.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration in diverse environments.
