Job Overview:
The Programme Management Officer position is situated within the Nature and Health Unit of the Biodiversity and Land Branch, Ecosystems Division at UNEP's Nairobi duty station. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Nature for Health Unit, contributing to UNEP's initiatives on One Health. This role involves participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, monitoring and analyzing their progress, and identifying issues that require corrective actions. The officer will also engage in consulting assignments, facilitate workshops, and assist clients in managing change. The position requires strong research and analytical skills to present information from diverse sources, assist in policy development, and prepare various written outputs such as reports and studies. The officer will also conduct outreach activities, provide training, and coordinate budget-related activities, ensuring effective data collection and analysis to support decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Management Officer include: participating in the development and evaluation of programmes/projects; monitoring and analyzing programme/project implementation; reviewing documents and reports; identifying problems and proposing corrective actions; conducting consulting assignments; researching and presenting information; assisting in policy development; designing data collection tools; preparing written outputs; providing support for meetings and conferences; conducting outreach activities; leading field missions; coordinating budget and funding activities; and performing other duties as required. The officer will also be responsible for collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights for data-driven planning and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of theories and concepts relevant to the environment sector, biodiversity, and public health. The ability to identify and analyze issues, conduct data collection, and interpret data is essential. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills. They must show pride in their work, be motivated by professional concerns, and take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives in their work. The role requires the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to develop clear goals consistent with organizational strategies.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Public Health, Interdisciplinary Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable, indicating a strong foundation in analytical skills.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management related to One Health, biodiversity, climate, or pollution linked to health is required. At least two years of relevant work experience in developing countries is necessary, along with two years of experience in international organizations such as the United Nations. Experience in international interagency initiatives involving health and environment sectors is desirable, as is experience in data analytics or related areas.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, also requiring a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the United Nations Secretariat, which operates primarily in English and French.
