Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is a specialized agency of the United Nations established to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. It was mandated by the UN General Assembly and serves as the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat collaborates with various partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities, aiming to reduce inequality, discrimination, and poverty. The Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) was established in 2011 in Cairo, Egypt, and provides technical cooperation and capacity building for 18 countries across the Arab region. The office promotes and implements policies, programs, and operational projects in UN-Habitat's focus areas, working at regional, national, and local levels to achieve sustainable urban development. The UN-Habitat Egypt Programme, established in 2005, has been providing technical support on a wide range of urban issues, focusing on urban planning and design, urban policies, legislation and governance, and urban basic services and mobility.

Job Overview:
The internship is located in the Egypt country programme at the Cairo duty station. Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Country Programme Manager, the intern will be involved in various administrative tasks that support the operations of the UN-Habitat office. The role is designed to provide the intern with practical experience in administrative functions within an international organization, allowing them to gain insights into the workings of the UN system and the specific challenges and opportunities related to urban development in the Arab region. The intern will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, assist in maintaining records, and contribute to the preparation of reports and correspondence, thereby enhancing their understanding of the administrative processes that underpin the work of UN-Habitat.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: supporting the maintenance of vacancy announcement files and tracking the status of these announcements; maintaining the staffing table and preparing relevant statistical data and charts; assisting in the preparation or customization of financial reports generated from the UMOJA system; drafting routine correspondence to respond to inquiries related to administrative, financial audit, and personnel matters; preparing tailored administrative reports; assisting the Procurement Unit in collecting quotations from suppliers and organizing procurement documentation; and maintaining and updating office vehicle logbooks to ensure accurate records of vehicle usage.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study include business administration, political science, economics, or related fields.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. programme, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. programme. This educational background should be closely related to the type of internship being applied for, ensuring that the intern has the foundational knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to the UN-Habitat's objectives.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, any experience in organizing, supporting, or participating in administrative services, finance, accounting, audit, human resources, or related areas is desirable. Additionally, strong research, data collection, and reporting skills related to financial and administrative services are considered advantageous for this position.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required for this internship position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable, which could enhance the intern's ability to communicate and collaborate within the diverse environment of the UN.
