The organization currently has 12 active country programs and is involved in various initiatives, including the Global Quality of Life Index project, which aims to enhance the technical and institutional capacity of participating countries and cities to adapt and utilize the index as a decision-support system based on reliable data.

Job Overview:
The Data Support Intern position at UN-Habitat is a full-time remote internship that focuses on supporting index-related data management and quality assurance tasks. The intern will work under the supervision of the Global Coordinator of the Quality of Life Initiative and will closely coordinate with the technical team. The primary responsibilities include assisting with data cleaning, processing, organization, and review activities related to the Quality of Life Index. The intern will also support survey review and localization processes, ensuring the consistency and completeness of localized survey forms. Additionally, the intern will provide general technical and operational support, including routine data quality checks and documentation updates. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in data analytics and urban studies, as it allows them to contribute to meaningful projects that aim to improve urban quality of life across various regions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support data management and processing activities: The intern will assist in data cleaning, processing, organization, and review activities related to the Quality of Life Index. This includes data entry, dataset management, and basic validation processes. The intern will also help organize and maintain datasets, spreadsheets, and related documentation, while identifying inconsistencies, missing values, and data quality issues.
• Support survey review and localization processes: The intern will review localized and translated survey forms for consistency, formatting, and completeness. They will conduct quality checks related to multilingual survey materials and datasets and assist with survey-related technical and administrative follow-up tasks as required.
• Provide general technical and operational support: The intern will support routine data quality checks and documentation updates, assist in preparing basic tables, summaries, and data outputs, and provide miscellaneous technical and backstopping support to the Quality of Life Initiative team as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The preferred areas of study for this internship include data science, statistics, urban studies, development studies, GIS, economics, geography, or a related field. Applicants should be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in one of these areas. A strong academic background in a field closely related to the internship is required, and applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed one of these programs.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, they must have a field of study that closely relates to the internship they are applying for. Experience in data cleaning, processing, and analysis is required, along with proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel), including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and data management functions. Familiarity with GIS shapefiles, spatial datasets, or GIS software (e.g., QGIS or ArcGIS) is desirable. Prior experience in data support, research, or analytical roles is also considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, and knowledge of another UN language is also considered an asset. Strong communication skills in both verbal and written forms are essential for effective collaboration within the team and with external partners.
