Job Overview:

This role involves engaging with national counterparts, UN Country Teams, and various stakeholders to advocate for UNFPA's mandate and deliver impactful programs, especially in emergency settings. The Representative must embody the organization's values and commitment to human rights and sustainable development, ensuring that the needs of the most vulnerable populations are prioritized.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNFPA Representative is responsible for several key areas: 1) Strategic Direction, Planning, and Management: Leading the positioning of UNFPA on strategic issues, building institutional relationships with government and civil society, promoting UNFPA’s role in the national development agenda, and establishing priorities for the Country Office. 2) Management of Resources: Managing international and national staff, fostering a culture of growth and development, attracting and retaining high-caliber staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and security standards. 3) Programme Leadership and Representation: Advising senior management on country-level issues, providing leadership in policy dialogue and program execution, engaging national counterparts through advocacy, and representing UNFPA within the UN Country Team. 4) Programme Oversight and Coordination: Driving results-based management, ensuring compliance with UNFPA policies, and carrying out additional duties as required by the Regional Director.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate university degree in disciplines such as Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should have 15 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public administration and international development, with at least 10 years in the field of population and development, sexual and reproductive health, or humanitarian work at the international level. A current knowledge of population and development issues and proven leadership abilities are essential, along with experience in advocacy, policy dialogue, and communication with partners.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a postgraduate university degree in relevant fields such as Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management, or other related disciplines. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of population and development issues and for effectively leading programs that address these challenges.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public administration and international development, with at least 10 years specifically in the areas of population and development, sexual and reproductive health, or humanitarian contexts at the international level. Field experience is essential, particularly in developing, humanitarian, or crisis situations, as it provides the necessary context for understanding the challenges faced in these environments.
Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in any other UN language is considered desirable, as it enhances communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in the international arena.
