Job Overview:
The Technical Officer - Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security will play a crucial role in supporting the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, which is a global health initiative funded by the United States Department of State. This position is vital for providing technical and operational support in Akwa Ibom and Bauchi States, focusing on contact tracing and active case search for priority diseases. The officer will work under the supervision of Senior Technical Officers and will be responsible for data gathering, analysis, and sharing among various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and state governments. The role also involves capacity building at the state level, ensuring that the EpiC project effectively addresses public health challenges, particularly in areas such as maternal and child health, malaria, and nutrition. The Technical Officer will contribute to the design, implementation, and monitoring of strategies aimed at improving outbreak preparedness and response, thereby enhancing the resilience of public health systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including: collaborating with the State Epidemiologist and Disease Surveillance Notification Officers (DSNOs) to strengthen surveillance systems; supporting the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data on infectious diseases; providing technical assistance to state-level stakeholders; facilitating coordination between FHI 360, NCDC, and other partners; developing and delivering capacity-building initiatives; assisting in the development of tools and materials for surveillance; monitoring the implementation of surveillance activities; supporting outbreak investigations; promoting adherence to infection prevention and control measures; and establishing productive relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies and international organizations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication, Health, or related areas. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in managing data collection and providing technical assistance is required. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in disease surveillance activities and extensive public health field experience in capacity building across multiple components. Familiarity with Global Health Security indicators and activities, as well as experience with international donor organizations and Nigerian public health systems, is essential. Knowledge of SORMAS and IDSR is highly advantageous, and candidates should have a proven track record of success in multicultural environments.
Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in relevant fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of public health and the necessary skills for effective communication and community engagement.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 4 years of relevant experience in public health, particularly in managing data collection and providing technical assistance. Experience in emerging and re-emerging infectious disease surveillance activities is essential, along with a strong background in designing, implementing, and monitoring capacity-building initiatives. Familiarity with Nigerian public health systems and international donor organizations is also required, as is experience in working within multicultural environments.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Akwa Ibom and Bauchi States would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication and engagement with local communities.
Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may require travel within Nigeria, with an estimated travel requirement of 10% to 25%. The expected hiring salary range for this role is between USD 12,326 and 17,000 annually, which includes basic salary and allowances.
