Job Overview: The Senior Accountant-Temporary Hire position at FHI 360 is a critical role that involves overseeing the financial operations of the Country Office in Abuja. The role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to ensure effective financial management. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Accountant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: managing treasury and cash operations, ensuring timely and accurate bank reconciliations, preparing and reviewing monthly financial reconciliations, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and donor regulations. The role will also involve reviewing payment requests, supporting the processing of payments, and ensuring accurate calculation of taxes and statutory deductions. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will prepare financial reports, monitor project expenditures, and support budget management processes. The position requires maintaining organized financial records, preparing for audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Senior Accountant will also oversee petty cash management and collaborate with team leads to resolve financial issues.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Accountant position must possess a BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or a recognized equivalent. A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in accounting, particularly in international development programs, is required. Familiarity with Department of State funded programs and non-governmental organizations in Nigeria is considered an advantage. Professional certifications such as CPA, ACA, or ACCA are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments. Knowledge of accounting software and financial management systems is essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees or professional certifications such as CPA, ACA, or ACCA will be given preference. The educational qualifications should reflect a solid foundation in accounting principles and financial management practices, which are critical for the successful execution of the responsibilities associated with this role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in accounting, with a focus on financial management in international development contexts. Experience working with donor-funded programs and familiarity with the financial regulations governing such projects is highly desirable. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. Additional Notes: This position is a temporary hire, and the expected hiring salary range is indexed to USD 12,326 - 17,000 for annual gross salary, which includes basic pay and allowances. The organization considers various factors when determining salary offers, including relevant experience, education, and internal equity. The role may require travel within Nigeria, with an expectation of at least 25% travel.
