Job Overview:
The Graphic Design Assistant position is situated within the Administration and Conference Management Division, specifically in the Publications and Conference Management Section. The role is supervised by the Conference Services Officer and the Publishing Officer, focusing on delivering high-quality graphic design services for various UN-sponsored activities. The assistant will engage in initial meetings with clients to understand their design needs, develop proposals, and execute design assignments that may include infographics, publication-ready artwork, and digital files. The position requires a blend of creativity and technical skills to produce visually engaging materials that adhere to UN branding and accessibility standards. The Graphic Design Assistant will also assist in data collection and analysis, contributing to effective communication and knowledge management within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Graphic Design Assistant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: participating in initial client meetings to discuss design projects; independently managing design assignments for UN events; conceptualizing and developing design proposals; creating infographics and data visualizations; producing publication-ready artwork and preparing digital files; ensuring compliance with branding and production standards; coordinating with clients and production staff throughout the project lifecycle; assisting in data analysis and presentation preparation; updating web pages and brochures; and performing other related tasks as required. The role demands the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a diploma in graphic design or a related field being advantageous. The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, publication design, editorial layout, and desktop publishing. Experience in producing various publication products, including reports and promotional materials, is essential. Familiarity with accessible digital publications and data analytics is also desirable. Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is mandatory, along with a strong understanding of industry production processes.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. A diploma in graphic design or a related field from a recognized institution is considered an advantage, as it provides foundational knowledge and skills relevant to the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design and related fields. This experience should encompass the design and production of various publication materials, including reports, brochures, and digital publications. Candidates with experience in data analytics or related areas will have an added advantage, particularly if they have worked on accessible digital publications or interactive PDFs.

Languages:
English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is considered a desirable language, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level I. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to meet the demands of the role.
