Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall quality and effectiveness of meeting reporting initiatives. Key duties include:
  • Performing quality assurance on meeting transcripts and reports, which involves proofreading, verifying speaker identifications against official rosters, and conducting structured audits for errors and garbles (35% of the role).
  • Conducting substantive research and knowledge management on topics related to the Asia-Pacific environment and development, which may include preparing background notes, case studies, and thematic mapping (30%).
  • Supporting the editorial review of draft reports to ensure compliance with United Nations editorial standards and validating structured extractions such as country requests and thematic tags (25%).
  • Assisting in organizing and documenting the meeting-report knowledge base and supporting follow-up tasks (10%). Daily responsibilities may vary based on the intern's background and the duration of the internship.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in fields such as development studies, international relations, public policy, environmental policy, area studies, communications, or related disciplines; or (b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) in the aforementioned fields. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent written English skills and demonstrate editing or proofreading abilities. Familiarity with United Nations processes and intergovernmental meetings is desirable, along with comfort in working with spreadsheets and structured documents. Attention to detail and reliability in verification tasks are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong educational background in relevant fields such as development studies, international relations, public policy, environmental policy, area studies, or communications. This can include either a completed graduate degree or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. The educational qualifications should align with the responsibilities of the internship, which focuses on research, analysis, and reporting in the context of international development and environmental issues.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates are expected to have some familiarity with research methodologies and the ability to engage with complex documents and data.
