Job Overview: The Monitoring Assistant position at WFP involves contributing to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of programmatic activities at the community level. The role is crucial for ensuring the effectiveness, quality, and accountability of interventions in assigned areas. The Monitoring Assistant will work under the supervision of the sub-office chief, engaging with beneficiaries and partners to facilitate operational follow-up of interventions, data collection, and reporting. The Monitoring Assistant will also play a key role in community engagement, ensuring that beneficiaries are informed about program activities and criteria, and that their feedback is effectively communicated to the WFP.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Monitoring Assistant include:
Supporting the implementation of field activities by participating in planning and organizing field operations, ensuring effective liaison between WFP, implementing partners, and communities.
Mobilizing beneficiaries and assisting in the organization of cash or food distribution events while ensuring adherence to operational procedures and WFP standards.
Coordinating with the sub-office chief and the RAM unit to plan field missions and ensure comprehensive coverage of activity sites.
Conducting regular site visits to verify compliance with approved activity plans and monitoring physical achievements and performance indicators.
Collecting quantitative and qualitative data using digital tools such as KoboCollect or ODK, ensuring data accuracy and quality.
Engaging with beneficiaries to raise awareness about program activities and criteria, promoting feedback mechanisms, and addressing community concerns.
Preparing mission reports and contributing to monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, documenting best practices and lessons learned.
Maintaining good relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and partners, and participating in coordination meetings in the intervention area.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Monitoring Assistant position include:
Completion of secondary education; a post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area is desirable.
Proficiency in the UN language used in the duty station and the local language, if different.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with data collection platforms (KoboCollect, ODK, or equivalent).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French, with the ability to work under pressure and in remote areas.
Strong teamwork skills and effective communication abilities are essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Monitoring Assistant position includes a minimum of secondary education. A certificate of post-secondary studies in a relevant field is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least five (5) years of experience in field activities, including data collection related to program outputs and outcomes. Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, report writing, and communicating findings to management, partners, and stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with WFP's monitoring and evaluation systems and standards is preferred, along with experience in humanitarian or development organizations. Experience in data collection using digital tools is an advantage.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is proficiency in the UN language used in the duty station, which is French. Knowledge of the local language is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills in both spoken and written forms.
