Job Overview:
The Monitoring Assistant position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the effective implementation and monitoring of food assistance programs at the community level. The role involves operational support, data collection, and community engagement to ensure that interventions are effective, accountable, and aligned with WFP's mission. The Monitoring Assistant will work under the supervision of the sub-office chief, contributing to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WFP's programmatic activities. This position requires a proactive approach to liaise with beneficiaries, partners, and local authorities, ensuring that the needs of the communities are met and that feedback mechanisms are in place. The Monitoring Assistant will also be responsible for collecting qualitative and quantitative data, verifying the accuracy of information, and supporting the overall monitoring and evaluation framework of WFP's operations in the assigned intervention areas. This role is essential for maintaining the quality and effectiveness of WFP's humanitarian assistance efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Monitoring Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Supporting the implementation of field activities by participating in planning and organizing field operations.
  • Liaising between WFP, implementing partners, and communities to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Mobilizing beneficiaries and assisting in the organization of cash or food distribution events.
  • Ensuring compliance with WFP's operational procedures and standards.
  • Monitoring the schedule of activities and coordinating with the sub-office chief and the RAM unit to plan field missions effectively.
  • Sharing site visit reports with the RAM unit and communicating urgent incidents and recommendations following field missions.
  • Entering field reports into the designated platform established by the RAM.
  • Conducting regular site visits to project locations to verify the implementation of activities against approved plans.
  • Tracking physical achievements and performance indicators, identifying operational issues, and proposing corrective measures. 1
  • Collecting quantitative and qualitative data using digital tools such as KoboCollect or ODK, ensuring data accuracy and quality. 1
  • Supporting beneficiary targeting, registration, and verification exercises. 1
  • Contributing to the maintenance and updating of project databases. 1
  • Raising awareness among beneficiaries about program activities and criteria. 1
  • Promoting feedback and complaint management mechanisms. 1
  • Documenting best practices, lessons learned, and testimonials for reporting purposes. 1
  • Maintaining good relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and partners, and participating in coordination meetings in the intervention area.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area being desirable. Proficiency in the UN language used at the duty station and the local language, if different, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with data collection platforms such as KoboCollect or ODK. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure and in remote areas. Teamwork and communication skills are also critical for this role.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. A post-secondary qualification in a relevant field is preferred, which may include areas such as social sciences, development studies, or related disciplines. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian assistance and the operational context in which WFP operates.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of experience in field activities, particularly in data collection related to program outputs and outcomes. Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, report writing, and communicating findings to management, partners, and stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with WFP's monitoring and evaluation systems and standards is highly desirable. Experience working with humanitarian or development organizations is preferred, and proficiency in using digital data collection tools will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Proficiency in the UN language used at the duty station is mandatory, along with fluency in the local language if it differs from the UN language. Strong written and verbal communication skills in French are essential for effective engagement with beneficiaries and stakeholders. Additional language skills may be advantageous but are not mandatory.
