Job Overview:
The Budget and Finance Intern position is located within the Budget, Finance and Operational Support Section (BFOSS) of UN-Habitat's Corporate Management Division. The intern will work under the supervision of a Budget and Finance Officer and will be involved in various financial and budgetary tasks. The role is designed to provide practical experience in financial management within an international organization, focusing on the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of financial resources. The intern will gain insights into the operations of UN-Habitat and contribute to the organization's mission of promoting sustainable urban development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a range of responsibilities, including assisting in the preparation of annual financial statements, preparing donor contribution receipts, coordinating petty cash reporting, supporting budget planning and monitoring, and maintaining section records and documentation. Specific duties include reviewing and consolidating financial inputs, preparing documentation for accounts receivable and payable, analyzing budget-related discussions, monitoring budget implementation and expenditure trends, and assisting in the organization of meetings and documentation. The intern will also perform other related duties as required, contributing to the overall efficiency of the BFOSS.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Preferred fields of study include Accounting, Finance, and Public Administration. While professional work experience is not mandatory, a relevant field of study is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel is required, and applicants should be able to demonstrate their familiarity with functions and features of Excel that are applicable in a budget and finance context.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have exposure to international and multicultural environments. This can be gained through academic, professional, volunteer, or extracurricular activities. Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
