Job Overview:
The consultancy position involves leading the production of the report titled 'Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals for the Arab States: The Gender Snapshot, 2026.' This report aims to assess the progress made towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from a gender perspective across the Arab States region. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist at UN Women ROAS and will be responsible for conducting comprehensive desktop research, collecting national data on gender-related SDG indicators, and consulting with relevant national stakeholders. The consultant will compile research results, analyze data, and produce a regional aggregate for gender-related SDG indicators. The report will emphasize the importance of gender equality in driving progress across the SDGs and will serve as a tool to encourage stakeholders to utilize gender data for informed decision-making. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the advancement of gender equality and women's empowerment at both country and regional levels.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Demography, Econometrics, Gender Studies, Social Science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent strategic planning and prioritization abilities. Proficiency in data analysis and visualization, along with strong writing and communication skills, is essential for this role.
Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Statistics, Demography, Econometrics, Gender Studies, or Social Science. A first-level university degree may be considered if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender data and the SDGs.
Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in designing and executing gender data research projects is required, preferably with a focus on SDGs or related fields. Experience in leading or co-leading regional-level gender data research initiatives is desirable, as is a track record of producing high-quality research publications in the area of gender data. Familiarity with UN agencies and experience working in the Arab States region will be advantageous.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as the consultant will be required to communicate effectively in both languages. A working knowledge of French is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders in the region.

This consultancy is home-based, meaning no travel is required for the position. - Evaluating the availability of data on gender-related SDG indicators.
- Compiling research results and data analysis into a comprehensive report format.
- Producing a regional aggregate for each gender-related SDG indicator in an Excel file.
- Incorporating feedback and amendments based on reviews from ROAS and ESCWA.
- Collaborating with the Communications Team of ROAS and ESCWA for data visualization, final editing, and layout of the report.
