Job Overview: The Upstream & Advisory Manager for Manufacturing & Services (M&S) in Africa will play a pivotal role in enabling investment opportunities and enhancing investment outcomes across the continent. This position is integral to the IFC's strategic objectives under the IFC 3.0 framework, which aims to create markets, develop investable opportunities, and strengthen private sector participation. The Manager will be responsible for formulating market creation strategies and ensuring that upstream and advisory interventions are designed to support mobilization efforts. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Regional Industry Managers, Joint Country Representatives, Global Industry teams, and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The Manager will oversee a team dedicated to delivering coordinated interventions across the continuum of IFC operations, ensuring that the organization's efforts lead to measurable development impact and improved investment conditions in the Manufacturing & Services sectors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Upstream & Advisory Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including leading and managing the Upstream & Advisory unit to ensure high performance and alignment with IFC's strategic priorities. The Manager will mentor and develop staff, promote professional growth, and contribute to the Africa M&S Management Team. Strategic responsibilities include formulating and implementing upstream and advisory strategies, supporting the execution of IFC country business plans, and leading market creation efforts to expand private sector participation. The Manager will identify upstream opportunities, develop scalable interventions, and advance strategic regional initiatives. Business responsibilities involve enabling investment opportunities, leading mobilization efforts, and enhancing investment outcomes through advisory interventions. The Manager will also serve as a principal focal point for collaboration with various stakeholders, build strategic relationships, and foster integrated World Bank Group solutions. Knowledge capture and management will be essential, as the Manager will identify trends and ensure that global expertise is applied to local market creation efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, International Relations, or a related field. A minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience is required, including at least 5 years in a managerial or lead capacity. A strong understanding of IFC's strategic priorities and evolving business models is essential, along with a deep understanding of the Manufacturing & Services sectors. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of leading upstream, advisory, and/or investment operations, possess strong commercial judgment, and have the ability to mobilize partners and translate engagements into investment opportunities.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant fields such as Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or International Relations. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the Manufacturing & Services sectors and for effectively contributing to the strategic objectives of the IFC.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial or lead capacity. Experience in investment, transaction, corporate finance, project finance, private equity, or business development is highly desirable, as is a demonstrated ability to innovate and generate new business opportunities.
