Job Overview:
The position of Economist within the Fiscal Policy and Growth (FPG) Department at the World Bank is crucial for enhancing macro-fiscal foundations in developing countries, particularly in Angola. The selected candidate will play a significant role in analytical work and lending operations, reporting directly to the FPG Practice Manager. The FPG unit focuses on strengthening macroeconomic dialogue and supporting countries in their reform agendas aimed at job creation and inclusive growth. The Economist will be involved in various projects, including Development Policy Operations (DPOs), and will work closely with Ministries of Finance and other governmental bodies to promote prudent fiscal policies and structural reforms. This role requires a deep understanding of Angola's economic landscape and the ability to contribute to the country’s transition towards a more diversified and sustainable growth model.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an Economist for the EAEM2 unit, the incumbent will be responsible for a range of duties including: contributing to FPG Advisory Services and Analytics in macroeconomic and fiscal management; designing operational and analytical work aligned with job creation and poverty alleviation objectives; leading or participating in country-specific financing operations; supporting the implementation of the World Bank's program in Angola; establishing partnerships with bilateral and multilateral agencies; disseminating knowledge products to stakeholders; collecting and analyzing economic data; maintaining macroeconomic databases; and preparing medium-term macroeconomic projections. The role also involves using economic models and toolkits to inform decision-making and policy recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in economics, with a PhD being preferred. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience is required, with a PhD considered equivalent to 3 years of work experience. A solid background in macro-economic modeling and policy analysis is essential, along with strong knowledge of Angola's development challenges and policy priorities. Excellent analytical and communication skills are necessary, with the ability to write clearly in both English and Portuguese. Strong interpersonal skills are also required to work effectively in a diverse team environment and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in economics, with a PhD being highly desirable. The educational qualifications should provide a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and policy evaluation, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to perform complex economic analyses and contribute to policy discussions.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in economics, particularly in macroeconomic modeling and policy analysis. Candidates with a PhD may have their educational experience considered equivalent to 3 years of professional work. Experience in working with governmental agencies or international organizations in a similar capacity will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the role requires clear communication and reporting in this language. Proficiency in Portuguese is also essential, given the local context of Angola and the need to engage with local stakeholders effectively. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered a plus but is not required.
