Job Overview:
The Research Officer (Digital) will be part of UNICEF Innocenti's dedicated research team, which specializes in generating evidence on the impacts of digital technologies on children's rights and wellbeing. The role involves contributing to ongoing research on technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as supporting the inception phase of a new longitudinal project that explores the risks and opportunities children face in a digital world. The Research Officer will lead statistical analysis of survey data, support quantitative research design, and assist in mixed-methods integration and analysis related to qualitative research. The position requires drafting various publications, including research reports and policy briefs, to address strategic priorities within UNICEF and globally regarding children's digital engagement and protection.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Officer will be responsible for leading statistical analysis of survey data related to technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse. They will support the quantitative research design for a new longitudinal research project and assist in mixed-methods integration and analysis of qualitative research. The officer will draft publications such as research reports, policy briefs, and journal articles, utilizing primary and secondary data to respond to UNICEF's strategic priorities. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with team members and supervisors to ensure the quality and relevance of research outputs, as well as engaging with stakeholders to disseminate findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, including mixed-methods analysis. Proficiency in statistical software such as R and Stata, as well as structural equation modeling (SEM), is essential. A solid understanding of safeguarding and protection issues, particularly concerning sexual exploitation and abuse, is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate research findings to diverse audiences.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Science, Statistics, or related fields is required. An advanced degree in one of these areas is desirable and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Experience:
At least 2 years of relevant work experience in research, child protection, digital safety, quantitative research, statistical analysis, survey research, data management, or policy analysis is required. Experience in research related to children's digital engagement and familiarity with safeguarding issues is also necessary. Candidates with experience in developing countries or multicultural environments will be considered favorably.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's qualifications.
