Job Overview:
In this full-time, permanent role, the Sexual Violence Trauma Counsellor will work as part of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Service team in Mount Isa/Gulf and Surrounds. The primary function of this position is to provide holistic case management and support to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, particularly focusing on children and families affected by trauma. The role emphasizes the importance of the child's voice and aims to create lasting change for victim survivors. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying client strengths, establishing program goals, and promoting skills that enhance health, safety, and development. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Sexual Violence Trauma Counsellor include:
  • Providing holistic case management to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
  • Supporting relationships and establishing goals for clients, while regularly reviewing their progress.
  • Promoting skills that increase health, safety, and development among clients.
  • Ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and considered in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Enhancing stakeholder relationships and partnerships to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Collaborating with a small team to deliver best practices in supporting women and children experiencing DFV.

  • Participating in professional development and training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in trauma-informed care and DFV.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of a 3-year tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate eligibility for membership with either the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). While membership is not required, candidates should provide evidence that they meet the eligibility requirements for these organizations. Candidates must also have demonstrated experience in case management and a solid understanding of relevant legislation related to domestic and family violence.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a 3-year tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support clients dealing with trauma and domestic violence.
