Job Overview:
The Associate Banker position is a critical role within the EBRD's Regional Office team, focusing on investments in Côte d'Ivoire. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities throughout the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, execution, implementation, and monitoring. The Associate Banker will work closely with the operation leader and senior bankers, contributing to comprehensive due diligence processes that assess financial, market, integrity, and compliance with EBRD policies. The position also involves elements of business development, client management, and policy dialogue, making it essential for the Associate Banker to possess strong analytical and communication skills. The role is designed to develop transaction expertise and expand responsibilities, potentially leading to a position as an operation leader on standard transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Banker will be responsible for several key areas under the guidance of the operation leader or a more senior banker. These include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborating as a project team member on transactions, contributing to project structuring and execution, and ensuring high-quality project due diligence. This involves preparing internal project documentation, financial models, and presentations, as well as managing technical cooperation assistance.
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Implementing and monitoring assigned projects, ensuring compliance with agreements and procedures, and preparing comprehensive monitoring reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Business Development: Assisting with marketing and business development efforts as required. The Associate Banker will also provide guidance to junior team members and may take on increased responsibilities as they gain experience.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office and spreadsheet software, particularly for financial analysis and modeling. Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French are mandatory, as the role requires collaboration with international teams.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices. Candidates with professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA will have an advantage, as these credentials demonstrate a commitment to the financial industry and a high level of expertise.

Experience:
Relevant experience in the financial industry is crucial for this role. Candidates should have experience from investment or commercial banks, private equity firms, asset management firms, or auditing/financial consulting firms that operate to international standards. Practical experience in participating in transactions throughout the project life cycle is essential, as is familiarity with the energy and infrastructure sectors, particularly in the context of EBRD’s operations in sub-Saharan Africa. Experience in project finance and climate finance will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is vital for collaboration with international teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it aligns with the regions in which the EBRD operates.
