Job Overview:
The Director of the Department of Environment, Climate Change, One Health and Migration (ECO) within the Division of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Care (PPC) is tasked with leading the department's efforts to reduce the global disease burden caused by unhealthy environments. This role involves articulating a clear departmental vision aligned with WHO's organizational strategy, ensuring effective operationalization through performance management practices. The Director will provide scientific, technical, and policy expertise to Member States and stakeholders, guiding the development and implementation of national and global health policies. The position requires strong leadership to manage a diverse workforce and financial resources, facilitating collaboration across various departments and offices to enhance program delivery. The Director will also be responsible for integrating technological and scientific advances into the department's work, ensuring timely access to information and equitable public health interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director will lead the implementation of WHO guidelines on climate and health, migration, air quality, and environmental health. Specific duties include supporting countries in applying WHO guidelines, monitoring climate and health indicators, establishing early warning systems for climate-related health issues, and coordinating with UN agencies to advance pollution control. The Director will also drive advocacy and resource mobilization efforts, represent WHO in global forums, and oversee the development of evidence-based policies and strategies. Additionally, the role involves building partnerships with external stakeholders and ensuring the department's deliverables align with organizational priorities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's level or above) in public health, medicine, environmental sciences, climate science, epidemiology, or a related field. Specialized training and extensive program leadership experience in Climate and Health, Environmental Health, and/or One Health are essential. A PhD in a relevant field is desirable. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of climate change and health, strong capacity to develop and apply policies, and the ability to translate scientific evidence into public health programs.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's level or above) in public health, medicine, environmental sciences, climate science, epidemiology, or a related field is required. Specialized training and additional qualifications in Climate and Health, Environmental Health, and/or One Health are also necessary. A PhD in one of these fields is considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health or a related field, with at least 7 years in leadership roles focused on climate change and/or environmental health. Experience should include managing complex, multidisciplinary programs and collaborating with governments and various partners at the international level. Demonstrated experience in multisectoral actions at multiple government levels is desirable.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of French is desirable, as it may facilitate communication in a multilingual environment.

The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 130,477, with additional benefits including 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, and an education grant for dependent children.
