Job Overview:
The position involves consulting to develop a games-based curriculum specifically tailored for natural resources management and governance. The consultant will work under the framework of the MFL Science Program, which seeks to enhance understanding of natural resource dilemmas through innovative educational methods. The role includes co-developing a pilot curriculum that addresses various natural resource problem domains, facilitating participant engagement, and ensuring that the curriculum is relevant to the needs and experiences of stakeholders in the MFL context. The consultant will also design a methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and contribute to establishing a Community of Practice focused on game-based learning in this field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Co-develop a pilot games-based curriculum that highlights contrasting natural resource problem domains.
  • Ensure the curriculum helps participants recognize and relate to the characteristics of resources and governance problems.
  • Share the draft curriculum with the MFL team for feedback and make necessary revisions based on their input.
  • Design a methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in enhancing conceptual understanding of natural resource governance dilemmas.
  • Contribute to the establishment of a Community of Practice (CoP) on game-based learning for natural resources management and governance.
  • Deliver a games-based curriculum ready for pilot testing in 2027, along with a methodology for impact evaluation and contributions to the CoP.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degrees or equivalent professional experience in both human and natural systems dimensions of natural resources dilemmas.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in developing serious games or behavioral experiments across various natural resource contexts.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in curriculum development and teaching in natural resource management or related fields.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing impact evaluations and mixed-methods experimental interventions in domains such as natural resource management or agricultural development.
  • Experience in developing digital games that can be deployed in field conditions is a plus.
  • Working knowledge and past experience with CGIAR research programs is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess advanced degrees in relevant fields, such as environmental science, education, game design, or related disciplines that encompass both human and natural systems. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education, particularly if it demonstrates a strong understanding of natural resource dilemmas and educational methodologies.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically at least 10 years in relevant areas such as serious game development, curriculum design, and impact evaluation. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in natural resource management or related fields, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex human-environment interactions and educational challenges.
