Job Overview: The Assistant IT for program operations will work under the general authority of the Head of the IIEP-UNESCO Office in Africa and under the direct supervision of the Administrator and the IT Manager. The role involves providing first-level IT support to all staff and interns at IIEP through the Helpdesk service. The incumbent will be responsible for diagnosing, detecting, resolving, and following up on IT issues, advising staff on the correct use of software such as MS Office and MS Teams, and ensuring data backup and recovery. The position also requires collaboration with the IT team in Paris to manage and maintain the physical IT infrastructure, including servers and telephony. The Assistant will support technical management during meetings and events, ensuring smooth operation of teleconferences and videoconferences, and will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of computers and software, including managing licenses and conducting repairs as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide first-level IT support to all staff and interns through the Helpdesk service.
Manage the Helpdesk system, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
Diagnose and resolve IT problems, including advising staff on software usage, data backup, and recovery.
Collaborate with the IT team in Paris to maintain the physical IT infrastructure, including servers and telephony.
Install computers and ensure they are updated with the latest patches and antivirus definitions.
Provide IT support for teleconferences and videoconferences, managing technical aspects during meetings.
Conduct installation of hardware and software, including license management and routine repairs.
Manage inventory of IT equipment and spare parts, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
Liaise with manufacturers for warranty repairs and recalls. 1
Maintain an updated inventory of software and hardware assets in collaboration with the finance team. 1
Perform any other relevant IT tasks as requested by the Administrator or IT Manager to ensure team success.
Required Qualifications:
Secondary, technical, or vocational studies leading to a diploma in information technology.
Relevant certifications in hardware and software management.
A university degree or certification in information technology is desirable.
Proven knowledge of IT processes, methods, and procedures.
Excellent organizational skills and a strong results-oriented mindset.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a secondary, technical, or vocational diploma in the field of information technology. Relevant certifications in hardware and software management are required, while a university degree or certification in information technology is considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of information technology, particularly in helpdesk support, hardware maintenance, and software applications, preferably within an international organization. Experience within a United Nations agency is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in French or English is required, with a good knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of Portuguese is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on financial availability. The position is open to external candidates and requires on-site work in Dakar.
