Job Overview: The intern position at OSCSEA is designed for individuals who are motivated and possess strong data analysis and visualization skills. The intern will work under the supervision of a staff member and will be involved in various tasks aimed at enhancing the organization's data capabilities. This includes cleaning and organizing raw data related to sexual exploitation and abuse, performing both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and developing dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Verint, and Excel. The intern will also be responsible for drafting visual storytelling materials and presentations that support decision-making and advocacy efforts. Additionally, the intern will engage in projects related to system-wide data coordination and knowledge sharing, analyze gaps in existing data reporting systems, and contribute to brainstorming sessions aimed at improving internal data workflows. This role is integral to supporting OSCSEA's mission of enhancing accountability and strategic decision-making through effective data use.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of responsibilities including: cleaning and organizing raw data related to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA); performing qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including trend analysis; developing and improving dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI, Verint, Excel, and other tools; drafting visual storytelling materials, infographics, and presentations; supporting ongoing projects related to SEA data coordination; analyzing gaps in iReport and collating recommendations for enhancing data collection; engaging in brainstorming sessions to propose innovative solutions for data use; supporting the analysis and dissemination of results from the annual system-wide survey on PSEA; providing general office support services; and undertaking other responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (1) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (2) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). No prior working experience is required, but applicants should possess skills and knowledge that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. Candidates should also demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. This educational foundation should ideally provide the intern with relevant knowledge and skills applicable to the tasks they will undertake during their internship at OSCSEA.
Experience: No prior working experience is necessary to apply for this internship. However, candidates are expected to have relevant training, education, or coursework that would contribute positively to the work of the United Nations during their internship. This could include experience in data analysis, research, or any related field that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with another UN language is considered an advantage. Candidates should be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, to fulfill the requirements of the internship.

The position is based in New York City and is primarily in-person, although part-time arrangements may be considered. It is important to note that interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Additionally, for non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, obtaining a G4 visa is mandatory, and the selected intern will need to ensure they have the appropriate visa and employment authorization to undertake the internship. The United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
