Job Overview:
The Lead Biomedical Engineer position is a pivotal role within the UN system, specifically aimed at enhancing health infrastructure in Sudan. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to assess the biomedical engineering needs of health facilities and develop appropriate solutions.

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of biomedical equipment and recommend upgrades or replacements as necessary.
  • Prepare detailed reports on project progress, challenges, and outcomes for stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards and regulations related to biomedical engineering and health infrastructure.
  • Engage with local communities to understand their health needs and incorporate their feedback into project planning.
  • Work closely with other UN agencies and partners to align biomedical engineering initiatives with broader health strategies in the region.

Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Proven experience in biomedical engineering, particularly in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with international health standards and regulations.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. Advanced degrees such as a Master's or PhD in Biomedical Engineering or Health Technology Management are preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in biomedical engineering, with a focus on project management in healthcare settings. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly in low-resource environments, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, given the local context in Sudan. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.
