Job Overview:
The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. This role involves not only driving but also providing basic administrative support when required. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and assisting with logistical tasks such as airport pickups and deliveries. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to UN safety and security rules.
  • Assist with basic translation during transportation when necessary.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at airports, providing assistance with visa and customs formalities.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle log books and report mechanical status to supervisors.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations.
  • Follow established rules for field deliveries and report any issues to supervisors.
  • Perform basic office tasks such as filing and photocopying when required.
  • Assist in the delivery and collection of various items and manage mailing services.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and be prepared to assist in emergencies. 1
  • Demonstrate a high level of courtesy and tact in all interactions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license (Class C or above), with Class CE being an added advantage. A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, is required. Candidates should have a demonstrated safe driving record and experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Knowledge of driving rules, local roads, and safety standards is essential. Candidates should also possess basic skills in vehicle maintenance and emergency assistance.

Educational Background:
Completion of secondary school education is required. Formal driver training and certification to operate assigned vehicles according to local regulations are mandatory. Candidates should have a solid understanding of driving protocols and safety standards.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant driving experience, ideally within an international context such as an embassy or UN system. Experience in defensive driving is desirable, as is familiarity with a variety of vehicle types and models. Candidates should have a proven track record of safe driving and vehicle maintenance.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not required.
