Job Overview: The Nurse position at ICTP involves providing first-line medical and health care support to a diverse group of individuals, including approximately 160 ICTP staff members, 200-250 consultants, research fellows, and visitors, as well as around 40 staff from the Academy of Sciences for Developing World (TWAS). The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Head of Unit/Senior Human Resources Officer and collaborate with the Chief of Medical Service at UNESCO Headquarters. The role requires the nurse to assess medical needs, provide first aid, offer guidance on disease management, and ensure the well-being of staff and visitors through preventive care and emotional support. The nurse will also be responsible for organizing medical examinations, liaising with health authorities, and maintaining confidentiality regarding medical issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nurse will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing first aid care to all visitors and staff at the ICTP Miramare Campus, assessing their medical needs, and offering advice on preventive care. The nurse will direct individuals to medical consultants when necessary, follow up on hospitalized patients, and provide guidance on medication administration and self-care. Emotional support for patients and their families is also a key responsibility. The nurse will organize entry medical examinations for new staff, arrange periodic medical examinations for at-risk categories, and assist with health promotion initiatives. Additionally, the nurse will maintain a list of medical specialists and health care facilities, inform clients, and arrange appointments as needed. Liaising with local health authorities on infectious diseases and maintaining confidentiality is crucial.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary, technical, or vocational school education as a nurse, with registration with the Nursing Council (O.P.I) and a valid nursing license to practice. The position requires at least five years of relevant working experience as a nurse, demonstrating a strong foundation in medical care and patient support. Candidates should also have a BLSD qualification and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive medical issues with empathy and discretion. Integrity, tact, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential, along with the capability to work independently and manage emergencies effectively.
