Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe transportation services to the UN Women Regional Director, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. The role requires a strong sense of responsibility, discretion, and integrity, as well as excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to maintain a client-oriented approach, demonstrating courtesy, confidentiality, and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. In addition to driving duties, the Driver may also be tasked with providing transportation for operations and program personnel, consultants, and UN staff on mission as needed. This position is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of the office and supporting the mission of UN Women.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting the UN Women Regional Director, high-ranking officials, and visitors, as well as facilitating VIP missions.
Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to various government offices, embassies, and UN offices.
Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities when required.
Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and adhere to safety regulations at all times.
Take immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Maintain daily vehicle logs, including mileage, gas consumption, and servicing records.
Ensure all official vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition.
Perform minor repairs and arrange for major repairs as necessary.
Maintain all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance and first aid kits. 1
Provide general administrative and logistic support, including organizing shipments and assisting with documentation for conferences and events. 1
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a valid driver’s license. A defensive driving certificate is considered an advantage. The role requires excellent driving skills, a strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs. Candidates should demonstrate punctuality and a commitment to safety and environmental sustainability in their driving practices.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary education. Candidates must also hold a valid driver’s license, and having a defensive driving certificate is advantageous for applicants.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or within the UN system, demonstrating a safe driving record. Additionally, experience in administration, logistics, and operations support is required, with familiarity in using ERP systems, preferably PeopleSoft, being desirable.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is required for this position, along with fluency in Turkish. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.
