Job Overview: The Coordination Officer plays a crucial role in the Policy and Best Practices Service, focusing on knowledge management and guidance systems within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The officer will be responsible for evaluating programs and projects, monitoring their development, and ensuring that relevant issues are addressed. The role requires designing and facilitating consultations and workshops to identify knowledge needs and support the uptake of guidance. The officer will also conduct research and analysis, prepare written outputs, and provide substantive backstopping for meetings and conferences. Additionally, the Coordination Officer will lead outreach activities, conduct training workshops, and coordinate budget-related activities, ensuring that DPO guidance materials are effectively developed and disseminated.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordination Officer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including: developing and maintaining knowledge management systems; evaluating assigned programs and projects; monitoring and analyzing program development; reviewing documents and reports; identifying problems and initiating corrective actions; liaising with relevant parties; designing and facilitating consultations and workshops; researching and analyzing information from diverse sources; coordinating policy development; generating survey initiatives; organizing written outputs; providing backstopping for meetings; initiating outreach activities; conducting training workshops; leading field missions; coordinating budget-related activities; and supporting the development and dissemination of DPO guidance materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management, guidance development, policy support, or organizational learning. Experience in preparing analytical reports and policy briefings is also required. Additionally, at least two years of experience working on issues related to United Nations peacekeeping field missions is necessary, particularly in knowledge management and organizational learning. Prior experience in project or program management is essential, and direct engagement with peacekeeping mission policy issues is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, international relations, political sciences, education, social sciences, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields, including knowledge management and policy support. Candidates should have substantial experience working with United Nations peacekeeping missions, particularly in areas related to guidance and organizational learning. Experience in project or program management is also necessary, as is familiarity with peacekeeping mission policy issues.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is considered desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in all language skills. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, particularly in a professional context.
Additional Notes: This position is financed by the Support Account for Peace Operations for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds.
