Job Overview: The Junior Landscape Architect will play a crucial role in supporting the UN-Habitat Jordan Head of Country office and project managers in delivering technical outputs aimed at advancing greening and resilience in urban areas, particularly in Sahab City. The position involves assisting in the implementation of the Rethinking Sahab Project and the Smart Urban Water Management project. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research, providing technical support for project reports, and facilitating workshops and meetings. The role requires a strong understanding of landscape architecture and greening practices, as well as the ability to synthesize information and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Landscape Architect will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: supporting project coordinators in executing UN-Habitat programs, conducting desktop research and data collection, providing technical support for assessment reports, drafting narrative sections for reports, preparing logistical arrangements for workshops, documenting meeting minutes, translating documents, and reviewing urban greening and climate change reports. The consultant will also assist in the planning and implementation of the Environmental Legacy Makers Award and provide additional technical support as needed. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in landscape architecture, agriculture, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Up to two years of relevant experience in landscape architecture or related fields is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of greening practices, research and analysis skills, and proficiency in office software packages such as Adobe and MS Office. Experience working with international development organizations is desirable, along with strong written and oral communication skills.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in landscape architecture, agriculture, or a related field is required for this position. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in landscape design principles, environmental sustainability, and urban planning.
Experience: The position requires up to two years of relevant experience in landscape architecture, agriculture engineering, or a related field. Candidates should have practical experience in greening practices and the ability to conduct research and analysis effectively. Experience working with international development organizations is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context of UN-Habitat and similar entities.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary working languages. Proficiency in French is also desirable, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Strong communication skills in these languages are essential for effective collaboration and reporting.
Additional Notes: The position is part-time and expected to last for six months. The consultant will work under the supervision of the UN-Habitat Jordan Head of Country office and project coordinators.
