Job Overview:
The position of International Expert on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination at Work involves conducting a comprehensive desk review of international legal frameworks, standards, and policies related to workplace discrimination, with a specific focus on gender-based discrimination. The expert will assess and compare international standards with the national legal and policy framework in Uzbekistan, identifying areas of alignment and gaps that require further attention. This role is crucial in supporting UN Women's efforts to ensure gender equality and non-discrimination in the workplace, particularly in the context of the Global Accelerator initiative. The expert will collaborate with a national consultant and will be responsible for delivering analytical inputs and recommendations to inform a final research report, which will contribute to evidence-based policy and program recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International Expert include:
  • Developing a detailed work plan and methodology for the desk review by July 1
  • Conducting a comprehensive desk review of international conventions, treaties, recommendations, and jurisprudence related to workplace discrimination by July 3
  • Drafting and revising a report with findings based on comments received by August 1
  • Collaborating with a national consultant throughout the assignment to ensure comprehensive analysis and recommendations.
  • Assessing and comparing international standards with national frameworks, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Providing analytical inputs and recommendations to inform the final research report.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on the findings and recommendations.
  • Ensuring that the assessment aligns with key ILO conventions and UN Women's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Legal, Political or Social Science, Economics, International Development studies, Gender/Women's Studies, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in developing concept papers, policy documents, methodologies, and guidelines.
  • Extensive experience in labor relations, decent work, macroeconomics, and gender equality.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated expertise in women’s economic empowerment.
  • Strong knowledge and professional experience in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Legal, Political or Social Science, Economics, International Development studies, or Gender/Women's Studies. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of gender equality and non-discrimination in the workplace, as well as the legal frameworks that govern these issues.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in developing policies and methodologies related to gender equality and labor relations. Candidates should have a strong background in women’s economic empowerment and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by women in the workforce, particularly in the context of the Europe and Central Asia region.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position.
