Job Overview:
The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Medical Coordinator will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership and operational oversight for the implementation of various humanitarian health interventions funded by DG ECHO and other health initiatives of Relief International. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality, timeliness, and accountability of emergency health services delivered in accordance with humanitarian principles, national health protocols, and donor requirements. The Medical Coordinator will engage in planning, coordination, supervision, technical monitoring, and capacity strengthening of health project activities in collaboration with local health authorities, humanitarian partners, and community stakeholders. The role emphasizes the integration of protection, gender, age, disability inclusion, and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) throughout project implementation. Furthermore, the Medical Coordinator will maintain close coordination with government agencies, health and nutrition clusters, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to enhance inter-agency collaboration and ensure effective delivery of life-saving services during emergencies and disaster response operations. Participation in relevant coordination platforms and technical working groups is essential to align with national policies and operational priorities, while also identifying gaps and promoting complementary programming within Relief International.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Coordinator will be responsible for providing overall technical leadership and strategic guidance for health and nutrition programming across the country program, ensuring that all activities are implemented in accordance with national standards, humanitarian principles, and donor requirements. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of technical guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and response protocols for emergency health and nutrition interventions. The role also involves ensuring quality implementation of emergency health activities, including disease prevention and control, community-based health services, and outbreak preparedness. The Medical Coordinator will conduct rapid needs assessments, provide technical oversight for project activities, and support the preparation of donor reports and project documentation. Additionally, the position requires strengthening community-based health systems, mentoring field teams, and representing the organization in health and nutrition technical working groups and coordination meetings. The Medical Coordinator will also identify implementation risks and support emergency preparedness initiatives, ensuring adherence to organizational values and humanitarian principles.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a relevant medical or health qualification, such as being a registered physician, nurse, or public health professional. Postgraduate training or specialization in fields like Public Health, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine is advantageous. A Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or a related discipline is highly desirable. Essential qualifications include a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in humanitarian health programming, emergency response, or public health project implementation. Familiarity with humanitarian principles, Sphere standards, and experience working with humanitarian donors such as DG ECHO, WHO, or UNICEF is preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and report writing skills are necessary, along with the ability to work in emergency settings and a willingness to travel frequently.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a medical degree or equivalent qualification in health sciences, complemented by postgraduate training in Public Health or a related field. A Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or International Health is highly desirable, reflecting a strong academic background relevant to the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience managing health programs in emergency, disaster, or conflict settings. Experience working with local government units and humanitarian coordination mechanisms is essential. Proven experience in technical supervision, program management, and coordination of multidisciplinary health teams is required. Familiarity with outbreak preparedness, disease surveillance, and emergency public health interventions is an advantage, along with experience in proposal development and donor reporting.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language for communication and reporting. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Philippines would be beneficial, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
