Job Overview:
The consultant will be situated within the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) and will provide operational support for the implementation of the Global Health for Peace Initiative (GHPI). This role involves reporting to the FCV1 and HPDN2 officer in AFRO, as well as the Interagency Policy for Emergencies (IPE) Unit Head at WHO Headquarters. The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting WHO Country Offices in conceptualizing, developing, and implementing projects that align with the health and peace approach. This includes providing technical support for design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, implementation, and review, as well as capacity-building and advocacy efforts. The consultant will also be responsible for raising awareness about the GHPI and its value for the African region, contributing to fundraising efforts, and developing an operational framework for the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for several key deliverables, including:
  • Preparing engagement and awareness-raising materials for WHO Country Office staff and relevant partners regarding the GHPI, including presentations that explain the Health and Peace approach and its applications.
  • Providing technical support to AFRO and WHO Country Offices in designing, implementing, and monitoring 'Health and Peace' programming as needed.
  • Contributing to the development of capacity-building materials and organizing training sessions for WHO staff and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting global learning and research efforts on health and peace, and mainstreaming research findings into communication tools and advocacy documents.
  • Advocating for and contributing to fundraising for the GHPI at regional and country levels, including proposal writing.
  • Developing an operational framework for the implementation of the GHPI in AFRO.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a first university degree in social or political science, diplomacy, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Essential qualifications include at least 5 years of relevant experience in the health and peace approach, which may encompass peacebuilding, conflict analysis, humanitarian-development-peace nexus implementation, and public health or humanitarian response in conflict settings. Desirable qualifications include experience in integrating peace outcomes into health sectors, providing technical support to teams, and fundraising, particularly in conflict or post-conflict environments.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first university degree in social or political science, diplomacy, international relations, development studies, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health and peace initiatives and their implementation in various contexts.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience relevant to the health and peace approach. This experience should include work in peacebuilding, conflict analysis, and programming sensitive to conflict, as well as public health and humanitarian responses in conflict settings. Experience in integrating peace outcomes into health initiatives and providing technical support to teams is also valuable. Familiarity with fundraising and proposal development is desirable, particularly in conflict or post-conflict settings.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of French is required, along with intermediate knowledge of English. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the international context of the role.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to last for 3 months, with a full-time commitment. The consultant will work remotely but may be required to travel as necessary. The remuneration for this position is set at Band level B, amounting to USD 7,000 per month, with additional daily subsistence allowances provided during travel.
