The UNIC operates within the framework of the Information Centres Service (ICS) and the Outreach Division (OD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC).

Job Overview:

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Officer-in-Charge a.i. of UNIC Algiers, contributing to the visibility of UN messages, campaigns, and initiatives. This role is particularly focused on enhancing the outreach of the United Nations in Algeria by creating engaging visual content that resonates with the local audience. The internship is full-time, requiring the intern to work five days a week, totaling 35 hours, and is expected to last for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months based on departmental needs and intern availability. It is important to note that this internship is unpaid, and candidates should be prepared to cover their own living expenses during this period.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in the coverage of UN events, campaigns, and activities through photography and basic video production. They will also be tasked with selecting, editing, and organizing visual content in line with UN communication standards. Additional duties involve creating infographics, social media visuals, and basic graphic materials, as well as assisting in the layout and design of various communication products such as presentations, flyers, briefs, and simple reports. The intern will support the organization and updating of photo and visual archives and assist with adapting visual content for digital platforms and social media. Furthermore, the intern may be required to perform any other communication-related tasks as needed, contributing to the overall mission of the UNIC Algiers.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet specific educational criteria. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). While professional work experience is not mandatory, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. A demonstrated interest in visual communication, digital content, and media production is essential. Additionally, applicants must possess computer literacy in standard software applications and have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, along with a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also crucial.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Political Science, Public Affairs, or a related field. They should also have a demonstrated interest in visual communication, digital content, and media production. Candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the other criteria outlined.

Experience:
While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, they should demonstrate a strong interest in the field of communication and media production. Experience in visual content creation, graphic design, or related areas will be advantageous but is not mandatory for this internship position.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English or French is desirable, and familiarity with an additional official UN language is also considered a plus. This linguistic proficiency will enable the intern to effectively engage with diverse audiences and contribute to the UN's communication efforts in Algeria.

The internship is full-time and in-person, requiring interns to work at the UNIC Algiers for 35 hours a week.
